What does the Privacy Health Score measure?
The Privacy Health Score is a weighted composite metric (0-100) that captures how effectively the Midnight Network is operating as a privacy-first blockchain. It is calculated from four components:
- Shielded Ratio (40%) — The percentage of transactions using shielded (private) transfers. Higher is better for network-wide privacy.
- Network Activity (25%) — Transaction throughput (TPS). More activity means a larger anonymity set, making individual transactions harder to trace.
- Decentralization (20%) — The number and distribution of validators. More validators means greater censorship resistance and trust minimization.
- Ecosystem Diversity (15%) — The number of deployed smart contracts. A diverse ecosystem means privacy tooling is being actively built and used.
A score of 80+ (grade A) indicates excellent privacy health. Between 60-79 (grade B) is good with room to improve. Below 60 signals areas that need community attention. The score updates in real time as chain data changes.
